EventCAT Conference is a service that provides real-time interpretation for small-scale offline meetings and large conferences.
This document serves as a guide for streaming your offline events to an online meeting using virtual camera software.
We will use OBS Studio and Zoom for this guide.
Setting Up EventCAT Conference
1. Go to https://www.eventcat.com/conferences and log in. If you do not have an account, you can create one for free using the button below.
2. To interpret your offline event, click the Create Instant Session button to create a session.
(Scheduling session is available for paid customers only)
3. Select all the languages spoken by the speakers at the event in Speaking Languages. Then select all the languages to be translated in Languages to Translate. Ensure that Synchronized Translation is checked before creating the session.
4. Allow microphone permissions so your browser can capture audio from the event.
5. Verify that your desired audio device is correctly set, then click the Start Session button in the top right to start the session. The audio device follows the system default settings.
6. If the translated text appears in the center of the screen, translation is functioning properly.
Configuring OBS Studio
Now, we will configure OBS Studio to broadcast subtitles to Zoom.
(For quick testing, it is recommended to keep the session started in the previous step active.)
1. Use the Preview button on the left to open the user page.
2. Click the settings button on the right and activate Caption Streaming Mode.
3. When Caption Streaming Mode is activated, the latest generated text will appear in a green box with up to two lines. This is pre-configured to mimic the typical appearance of subtitles seen in movies or YouTube videos.
After setting up Caption Streaming Mode, say anything to generate text. If the text appears within the green box within 2 seconds, the setup is correct.
The color code for the green area matches OBS Studio's default chroma key color: RGB(0, 255, 0) (Hex code: #00FF00).
4. Start OBS Studio and create a Scene. Then, create one Screen Capture in Sources to capture the browser screen.
5. Set the Method to Display Capture. Adjust Display according to your computer monitor settings to capture the browser.
6. By default, OBS captures the entire screen. To display only the green area, adjust the capture region so that only the green area is shown.
Drag the red square on the edge of the capture area while holding the Alt key (or Option on MacOS) to resize it.
Position the green area at the center bottom of the screen.
7. Apply a chroma key filter to the Screen Capture to remove the green area.
Right-click on Screen Capture - go to Filters - create Chroma Key under Effect Filters.
Set Key Colour Type to Green. If the chroma key is applied correctly, it should look like the number 2.
Before enabling the virtual camera, set the Output Type to its default setting and start the virtual camera. Now, you are ready to broadcast to Zoom.
Broadcasting OBS Studio Screen to Zoom
1. Start Zoom and join any meeting. Set the video source to OBS Virtual Camera.
2. Once the OBS Studio screen appears in Zoom, you’re all set. Depending on your Zoom settings, the screen might appear mirrored.
